Plans

My floor plans have been integrated onto my site plan. The compliling of these plans are intended to give contexts horizontally as well as vertically.

Ceiling Inspiration

The Fourth floor is meant to be a kitchen learning area/observation deck. To allow light in and a beautiful view out to the south, I want the kitchen structure to be entiely glass. The space does need shade so I found this as my inspiration as a way to keep the glass and control shade. In possibly a “cut and fill” manor. One panel can be opened and another close, etc. The pattern made may come to esemble the facade.

Cut and Fill diagram

The most benefitial way to work towards completeing the project is for me to complete my diagrams, that way I can always refer back to them as I finish the rest of the project. This diagram is most important to my concept. It is the diagram that represents my concept of using cut and fill to create an interrelationship between building and landscape.

Site Sketches/Diagrams/Studies

Here I took a look at the water flow and shadows cast by preexisting buildings and compared them to the changes that would be made in water flow and shadows if another building were on site.

Concept Statement and model progression

For the program of my building, I really want the building to have a weving relationship with the landscape and within the programs of the building as well. I do this by the concept of cut and fill. In regards to the building and its relationship to the landscape, I apply this concept literally by emovinig the earth and moving it to become the landscape around and on the building. In regards to the interior of the building, I want the floors both vertically and horizontally to have a strong connection. The cut and fill concepts will enbed themselves into the programs and design of the building and landscape to for a interconnected whole.

Project3 Concept Statement 11.15.11

The focus of my project is to design a building AND landscape that follow the idea of “cut and fill.” In my project 2, I noticed how the interrelationship of the weaving knot formed both positive and negative spaces, which to me was my inspiration for the idea of “cut and fill;” the relationship between positive and negative. I intend on integrating the building within the landscape, as if the ground was cut, the building was placed in, and then the gound was refilled around it. By this, nothing will be subtracted from the site, which is the idea of “cut and fill;” spaces and surfaces are repositioned. I want the relationship between building and ground to be present throughout the program and I intend on creating this relationship through “cut and fill”

Project3 Concept Statement(take 2)

In project 2 I focused on the idea of positive space folding in on itself to form a knot with various enclosed negative spaces. In Poject 3, my goal is to apply that same concept in order to weave together the building and landscape to make them a whole, interrelated composition. I believe that this can be achieved without destroying the preexisting landscape. Therefore, I will apply the conserving idea of cut and fill to my methods of weaving together the building and landscape, which is visually seen through “patchwork.”

For example, a surface moves into/out of the earth to stich itself onto the building, thus “grounding” the building. Also,  the ground plae of the landscape is a representation of the negative spaces of one of the facades, and that facade is a casting of the negative spaces of the gound plane.

Project3 Concept Statement1

In project 2 I focused on the idea that the knot weaved within itself in order to form the whole knot. I liked how the self-weaving create interrelated space so in project 3 I want to use that same concept in order to connect the building to the landscape, and make them a whole composition. The program will be one that weaves and folds from building to landscape and vice versa as if they were sewn together, celebrating the existing slope and topography, in order to illustrate the interrelationship between the building and landscape.

Project Concept Statement 11.04.11

Continuously revise your project statement to refine the essential concepts that answers the question:

What is your project about?

This will be your “elevator pitch”, the first words that you speak when introducing your project for any crit or review. Do not short circuit the process by talking about morphological aspects of the project and architectural strategies that you want to pursue. Instead talk about your interpretation of the site and program that lead you to making analogical associations. Visualize in words the attitude, character, and identity of your project.

Adding a New Portfolio Item

Portfolio items can be added and replaced in the Portfolio area of wp-admin (1).  Give the item a name that will be publicly displayed when mousing-over the item on the home page (2).  Upload a image that is less than 4MB (3)  The image should be a jpeg or png type file, and ideally would be re-sized to have a minimum height or length of 960 px, although the image will be dynamically re-sized by the wordpress image uploader.  The next step is to add the image as a “Featured Image”, rather than inserting into post, so it should display an thumbnail as indicated (4).  You can write a caption or short description of the work in the text field (5), which can include formatting and hyperlinks.  The final step is click on Publish or Update.  You can edit the publication date to re-order the portfolio items.
